Around East Texas

More around and about East Texas with Horace McQueen

More and more of the civilized nations round the world are trying to rein in the radical Muslims in their populations. Australian officials have told the dissidents that they have a choice. If they can't learn to speak English, stop teaching Muslim youngsters to hate Christians — and other non-Muslims — and quit trying to undermine the government, they can leave the country.....more>>

  • FARMER'S NOTEBOOK: Spring can’t get here fast enough
For snow to be so pretty it sure can make an awful mess of things.

  • The snow was pretty but not good for the cows
It’s been a long time since I’ve not been able to see the ground.
That was the case with all the snow we had around here last week. I guess I was in college in Lubbock the last time the landscape went white for me. I think that was way back in 1994.

  • East Texas ramblings with Horace McQueen
Are you already tired of politics — shoved in our faces, and eardrums, by television, radio and newspapers. Plus the mailers we get from present or aspiring politicians. Seems they are all “conservative” and have all the answers to solve our problems. Well, the primary elections are coming up shortly and maybe we will get some much needed relief from the political rhetoric for a while before the general election this fall.

  • Just visiting with Horace McQueen
We will even cover some agricultural topics this issue — but first this news item. Our Texas Ethics Commission in Austin keeps a record of payments to lobbyists both from companies and individuals.

Spending a couple of hours at the Freestone County Bull Test a couple of weeks ago was quite an enjoyment for me.

Maybe that recent spell of freezing weather will knock out many of the insects that often plague East Texas farmers, ranchers and gardeners as spring and summer approach. Would guess that the fire ants were so deep in their mounds that the freeze had little effect on them-but we can always hope.

  • FARMER'S NOTEBOOK: Spring planting getting started
As I watched the Texas governor debates last week I was struck with the notion — if this is the best politics has to offer then we would be better off without a government.

  • Just Who Is Running This Country?—asks Horace McQueen
Where does the buck stop? It doesn’t seem to with President Obama — he refuses to address the perils we face here at home and worldwide. Notice that not one time has he mentioned the “Muslim” word when terrorists who attack us at home and abroad are involved.

  • FARMER'S NOTEBOOK: So much for global warming
    Brrr!
There’s really no way to describe the arctic chill enveloping us.
